The Carvers Bay Bears broke open a close game in the fourth quarter to take a 60-52 win over the Legion Collegiate Academy boys basketball team on Friday afternoon in the consolation round of the Lindberg Moody Holiday Tournament that is being hosted by Northwestern High School.
LCA got out to a good start and led Carvers Bay 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams were knotted up 30-30 at halftime and the Lancers outscored the Bears 14-11 in the third quarter to take a three-point lead heading into the final period, but Carvers Bay blistered the nets in the fourth quarter by connecting on 8 of 11 shots to outscore Legion 19-8.
Legion had 10 players score in the game, but only one Lancer, senior
Aiden Cherikos, reached double figures with 14 points. Eleven of his total came in the first half. In addition to his scoring total, Cherikos also led Legion with five assists. Carvers Bay had four players score in double figures led by K. Heyward with 17.
LCA's record falls to 3-9 while Carvers Bay improves to 8-5.
Legion will play its final game of the Lindberg Moody tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
