Hours of Instruction

LCA students exceed the state required minimum hours of instruction per course plus needed interventions. We also provide opportunities to extend student course knowledge through research and project development, business and technology incubator opportunities and round table discussions with community members.

Athletics

LCA recognizes the relationship between academics and athletics; regular exercise, skill development, and interscholastic athletic competition can play critical roles in each student’s growth. The primary responsibility of student athletes is their education. LCA guides its student athletes through the college athletics eligibility process.

LCA’s academic and sports programs nurture integrity, pride, loyalty and character while building school spirit. In addition, students graduate from LCA, not only academically prepared for college study, but also with college credits in place that put them closer to achieving the four-year degree while engaging in athletics in college.

LCA Educational Plan

LCA grows and develops well-balanced, successful, happy students who are willing and confident in taking the risks needed to lead a highly successful life. At the same time, we instill a sense of responsibility and awareness of a world bigger than any one person. LCA offers a dual enrollment program in which students are challenged mentally and physically to excel in their various career interests and athletic preferences.

Lancer Life focuses on the whole child and offers a rigorous curriculum integrating athletics, honors academics, and student life activities. Our Gradual Release Model begins with unlimited support through our Freshman Academy, provides scaffolded support and bridges to opportunities in The Connection Innovative Space; and finally, our Senior Transitions program pairs with our York Tech/USCL/Winthrop campus models as the final piece of our preparation for real world choices post high school. As students progress from year to year, they are provided more academic freedom with increased responsibility. By the end of their senior year, they are ready to pursue higher education or career opportunities.

School Structure

The school at full capacity has no more than 660 students in grades 9–12.

LCA provides a variety of scheduling options on a “split” schedule (morning or afternoon sessions). Students attend classes in the morning or afternoon, which allows them to participate in athletics and/or extra-curricular activities, hold gainful employment, or attend to responsibilities in the non-classroom part of the day. In traditional high schools, athletes regularly end their school/practice day between 2-3:30 p.m.  The uniqueness of our model is it allows student athletes to finish practice earlier, which means they have more time at home for family and studies.

The split session model allows for more flexibility financially through facility and human resource savings.  With less than half of our students on our academic wing at a time, we can use fewer resources and simultaneously educate our students with rigor and intentionality.

Educational Management Organization

Legion Collegiate Academy has entered into a contract with Pinnacle Charter School Management Group, LLC as its Education Management Organization (EMO).
