Legion Collegiate Academy senior
Aiden Cherikos poured in a season-high 31 points on Friday night to lead the Lancers to a 76-53 victory over York Prep and complete the sweep of the regular season series with the Patriots. The Lancers improve to 2-5 with the win.
Cherikos and YPA's Antwon Young put on an offensive show as Young finished with 30 points. Cherikos scored 19 of his points in the first half as the Lancers jumped out to a 41-26 lead. Thirteen of those points came in the second quarter when Legion outscored the home team 28-11. All 10 LCA players got into the game and contributed to the scoring. Joining Cherikos in double figures was senior guard
Zion Brown who scored 16 points.
Isaiah Worley scored nine points and Mujah Williams added seven.
LCA did a good job on the boards as well, pulling down 31 rebounds with four different players grabbing five each. They included Cherikos,
Amir El,Â
Jacob Siuta, and Williams.
The Lancers will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when they travel to Arden, NC, just south of Asheville, to face Christ School at 5:30 p.m.
LCA Junior Varsity--22 Â Â Â Â Â YPA JV--39
Mattox Cottman, a 6-2 sophomore forward, led all scorers in the game with 14 points, but the Legion Collegiate JV Boys fell on the road to crosstown rival York Preparatory Academy, 39-22, on Friday night.
LCA got off to a slow start as it was outscored 13-3 in the first quarter. With Cottman scoring six points in the second period, Legion equaled YPA's eight points and trailed 21-11 at halftime. Only three Lancers were able to dent the scoring column as freshman Wesley Stewart scored five points and Cooper Brzozka had three. YPA saw eight of its 10 players reach the scoring column.
The Legion Boys JV team is now 1-4 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when it hosts Comenius School at 5 p.m. Â
