Bryanna Young turned in a standout performance over the weekend as the Legion Collegiate Academy volleyball team posted a 4-2 record in Raleigh, NC, at the Volley with the Knights Tournament.
Young recorded 48 kills across the Lancers' six matches to earn the LCA Athlete of the Week honor. The Lancers improved to 12-3 overall on the season and enter play this week ranked by Max Preps at No. 22 in the state of South Carolina.
The Lancers opened the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 victory (25-12, 23-25, 25-20) over Charlotte Christian Academy. Young had 12 kills in that match on 31 attacks while junior
Mia Clyburn added eight kills. Senior
Mia Scott handed out 29 assists in the match.
Legion followed that victory with a straight set win (25-14, 25-18) over Charlotte Latin. Clyburn led the way with nine kills in that match while Scott handed out another 19 assists.
Legion found the competition a little better on Saturday. The Lancers opened the day with a close two-set loss to Trinity Academy of Raleigh, falling 25-23 in the first set before an extended 30-28 loss in the second. Young and junior
Kennedy Rouse had eight kills each in the match while Scott had 21 assists.
That match was followed by another hard-fought loss, this one in three sets to Wake Christian Academy of Raleigh. The Lancers fell in the opening set 27-25 before taking a 25-17 win to even the match. WCA held off Legion in the final set, taking a 15-13 win to take the match. Young had nine more kills in the match with the Bulldogs while Scott had 15 assists.
The Lancers closed out the tournament with a straight set (25-10, 25-19) victory over Charlotte Christian. Rouse led the way with seven kills while Scott had 13 assists.
The Lancers have a pair of matches on the schedule this week. Legion will host Weddington at the LCA Gym on Wednesday with the match scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start. They will then head to Waxaw, NC, on Saturday for a match against Marvin Ridge. That match is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Legion JV and freshmen teams will be in action this afternoon at Gray Collegiate Academy with a 5:30 p.m. match time. The JV will also play Weddington on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. start and will then play in the Dorman Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Roebuck, SC.
