Three freshmen newcomers to the Legion Collegiate Academy baseball program received high rankings in the Prep Baseball Report for the Class of 2027. Connor Salerno, a left-handed pitcher projected as a starter this season, is ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 2 in South Carolina. Griffin McKain, another southpaw pitcher, is ranked No. 3 in South Carolina and 25th nationally, while Hudson Riordan, a right-handed pitcher and infielder, is ranked No. 6 in the state and 225th nationally.
According to first-year Legion head coach Jalen Benjamin, this trio shares a rich history on the diamond, having honed their skills together on a nationally ranked travel team. "Their unique talents and cohesive chemistry promise to make them invaluable assets and bound to make a profound impact on our team."
Meet Connor Salerno
With his undeniable talent and unwavering commitment, Salerno can secure a spot in LCA's starting rotation, according to Coach Benjamin. On the national stage, Salerno commands attention as PBR has him ranked nationally as the 9th best player in the class of 2027 and he claims the No. 2 spot in South Carolina. Beyond being a special player, Salerno is exceptional in the classroom with an impressive 3.7 GPA. Fans can anticipate thrilling moments from Salerno has he contributes invaluable innings on the mound and makes a lasting impact on the game.
Meet Griffin McKain
Coach Benjamin says this young man has an extremely bright future. PBR has McKain ranked No. 25 nationally in the class of 2027 and No. 3 in South Carolina. "He brings dedication, talent, and potential to our team with a smooth, silky swing and explosive pitching. His summer stats with a nationally ranked travel program speak volumes about his prowess on the field," says Benjamin. McKain compiled a batting average of .415 and an OPS of 1.067 last summer and he had an earned run average of 3.1 on the mound. He is also outstanding in the classroom and is committed to play baseball at the University of South Carolina.

Meet Hudson Riordan
According to Benjamin, Hudson is a rising star with both power at the plate and on the mound. "With an impressive .450 batting average with 4 home runs over the summer, Riordan joins our team as an infielder and right-handed pitcher. As a hitter, he adds a formidable presence to our lineup," says his coach. PBR has him nationally ranked as the 225th prospect in the class of 2027, and in South Carolina his skills shine even brighter as he ranks No. 6. He, too, excels in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA. Benjamin says Riordan promises to be a game-changer, embodying a raw talent and untapped potential.
