Aiyana Murrell led the Legion Collegiate Academy girl's basketball team to a 50-38 home victory on Tuesday night over Covenant Day.
Murrell, a 6-2 junior post player, scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first half to give the Lancers a 26-16 lead at intermission, but it was the play of 6-1 teammate
LaKiara Alexander late in the game that helped Legion hold off a fourth quarter run by Covenant Day that got it to within a single point of the Lancers at 36-35 with just over two minutes left in the game. That's when Alexander took over on both ends of the court. She scored six of her 10 points in the final two minutes and was involved in all of Legion's final 12 points of the game as she came up with steals, assists and rebounds that led to six points.
Amelia Williams also played a key role in the win as the sophomore point guard finished with 14 points.
The Lancer girls are now 3-3 as they jump back into action on Wednesday when they host Parkwood High School at 5:30 p.m. following the boys JV game and before the boy's varsity contest.
