Devin Long and
LaKiara Alexander combined for 34 points to lead the Legion Collegiate Academy girls' basketball team to a 46-35 season-opening victory over Example Academy on the opening day of the NAAIS Classic in Chicago, IL.
The Lancers will play Link Academy at 5:30 on Saturday and close out the National Athletic Association for Independent Schools event on Sunday with a game against Lincoln Prep out of Canada at 11 a.m.
Long, a 5-9 senior guard, led Coach John Edwards' team with 20 points as she got to the free throw line 14 times and converted 13 to go along with three field goals, including one three-pointer. Alexander, a 6-1 junior forward, scored 14 points on seven made field goals. Sophomore guard Ameliia Williams added six points for Legion.
