The Legion Collegiate Academy boys basketball teams earned a split of their home doubleheader against crosstown rivaal York Prep Academy on Friday evening. The junior varsity team built up a 19-point first half lead and held off a YPA surge to claim a 52-46 win while the varsity fell 73-49 to the Patriots.
In the JV game the Lancers opened red-hot and connected on six first half 3-pointers to claim a 34-19 lead at intermission.
Austin Kennedy led Legion with a game-high 17 points, including 13 in the first half. He was one of three Lancer players who made two 3-pointers in the first half. LCA's shooting cooled off in the third quarter as it was outscored 12-4 by YPA who cut its deficit to seven heading into the final quarter. The Patriots trimmed Legion's lead down to only three points with under two minutes remaining at 49-46, but the Lancers clinched the game by getting a layup from Kennedy, one free throw by
William Spatola and two more from
Jakob Eby.
With the win, the JV team improves to 3-6 on the season and will host Lincoln Charter on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Legion Varsity--49, YPA Varsity--73
York Prep jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead over Legion Collegiate Academy and breezed to a 73-49 victory on Friday night. The Lancers fall to 1-9 on the season.
LCA trailed 43-20 at halftime, but was outscored just 30-29 in the second half.
Isaiah Worley led the Lancers in scoring with 14 points while
Shawn Thomason added 9.
Legion will host Lincoln Charter out of Lincolnton, NC on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
