Legion Collegiate Academy's varsity baseball team earned a 13-4 win over Fort Dorchester High School in a rain-shortened game on the second day of the PBR Shipyard Showdown in Charleston.
The win was the first for head coach Jalen Benjamin at Legion Collegiate Academy. The game was called in the top of the fifth inning, but had completed the required four innings to be an official game. Â
The Lancers had scored five runs in the second inning and added seven more in the third to take a 12-0 lead. Fort Dorchester scored its four runs in the third. LCA added another run in the fourth.
Legion shortstop
Andres Lopez led the Lancers at the plate as he went 2 for 2 with a triple and five RBI.Â
Jackson Gordon went 2 for 3 and
Tyler Rosario had a triple for the Lancers who had eight hits and drew 11 walks in the game.
Freshman lefthander
Connor Salerno got the start on the mound, but allowed four earned runs on a pair of hits and walked seven while striking out five in 2.2 innings of work.Â
Will Bartnikowski came on in relief to pitch 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball. He did not allow a hit and struck out one and walked one to earn the win.
