The Legion Lancers JV baseball team built an early 5-1 lead over the Charlotte Stampede on Wednesday afternoon, but let it slip away as the Concord, NC school scored five runs in the fourth and added four more in the fifth to take an 11-8 victory.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning before Legion scored four times in the top of the third inning as they drew five walks and got a double from Dawson Parton to go up 5-1.  The Stampede then forced Legion starting pitcher
Bryson Bailey from the game in the fourth innning as they collected a single, walk and triple to cut the Lancer lead to 5-3.  Parton relieved Bailey and proceeded to hit a batter and gave up a single, double and one batter reached on an error as Charlotte scored three more runs to take a 6-5 lead.
Legion came back in the fifth to retake the lead at 7-6 on a two-run single by Tate Olney.  That lead was short-lived, however, as the Stampede came right back with four runs to take a 10-7 lead. Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning for the final 11-8 margin.
The Lancers finished with eight runs on eight hits and they committed four errors.  The Stampede had 11 runs on 12 hits and made three errors.  Parton was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on six hits in his one inning of relief.
The Lancers are now 3-6 and will play at Lugoff-Elgin on March 29.Â
