Tyler Rosario had two hits including a grand slam home run and drove in five runs to lead the Legion Collegiate Academy varsity baseball team to a 20-0 win over Southlake Christian Academy in a game that was called after five innings on Friday afternoon.
The Lancers collected 16 hits and drew eight walks in the game as seven players had two hits. In addition to Rosario,
Will Bartnikowski,
Gavin MacDonald,
Griffin McKain, Justin Iannetto, Colin Tuttle and Ryan Brakstad had two hits each.
Nine of Legion's 16 hits went for extra bases. In addition to Rosario's grand slam HR, the Lancers collected eight doubles. Tuttle and MacDonald had two doubles each while McKain, Iannetto, Brakstad and
Riley Stiles each had one two base hit.
Freshman southpaw
Connor Salerno went the five innings on the mound to earn the win as he allowed just one hit while striking out eight and walking only one batter. The Lancers defense played errorless baseball to support Salerno's effort.
Legion jumped on Southlake starting pitcher Evan Hogg in the first inning for seven runs and added two more in the second and and one in the fourth innings off reliever J. Salony before erupting for 10 runs in the fifth to put the game away.
Legion Collegiate is now 4-1-1 and will return home on Monday for a 6:00 p.m. game at Winthrop's Eagle Field against Combine Academy.
