Gavin MacDonald drove home four runs with a triple and single to lead the Legion Collegiate Academy varsity baseball team to a 9-6 win over the Carolina Royals on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Lancers improve their record to 10-4-1 and will travel to Burlington Christian School on Friday.

MacDonald's first inning triple drove home the first two runs of the game and he came home on a single by Hudson Riordan to state Legion to a 3-0 lead.  MacDonald came up with a key two-run single in the sixth inning as the Lancers increased the lead to 9-2. 

Griffin McKain, who started on the mound and earned the win by going three innings while allowing one run on one hit, also led Legion's 10-hit offensive attack by going 3 for 5 at the plate.  Joining MacDonald with two hits were Andres Lopez and Riordan.

Carolina Royals JV--7     Legion Collegiate JV--4

The Carolina Royals JV broke a 1-1 tie by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to defeat the Legion Collegiate Academy JV 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

After Lancers' starting pitcher gave up a run in the first inning, Legion was able to tie the game with a run in the top of the fourth inning when Michai Prowisor singled home the tying run, but Carolina responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 6-1.  The Royals loaded the bases with two singles and a walk and forced a pitching change.  Reliever Brannon Cunningham came in and was immediately met with an RBI single.  After retiring the second out with a strike out, the Royals scored two runs on a double to make it 4-1.  A walk, a hit batter and a single scored two more runs.

The Lancers got three runs back in the fifth thanks to two hit batters, two walks and a single, but left the bases loaded.

Bailey suffered the loss as he gave up four hits and four runs in three and one-third innings while walking one and striking out five Royals. John Nypaver led the Lancers at the plate with a 2 for 2 day and Prowisor collected two runs batted in as he went 1 for 3 in the ninth spot in the order.

The Lancer JV will travel to Union County High School on Thursday.
