Freshman southpaw
Connor Salerno pitched five complete innings of near flawless baseball on Thursday night to lead Legion Collegiate Academy to a 8-2 win over Gray Collegiate Academy at The Winthrop Ballpark.
Salerno, a highly-ranked hurler, allowed four hits and one run while striking out three hitters and issuing just one batter. The run he allowed came in the fifth inning with two outs and scored on a wild pitch.
Camden Towell pitched the final two innings to nail down the victory for the Lancers who improved their record to 12-6-1. The loss was just the third for Gray who is now 17-3 on the season.
The Lancers collected eight his from four different players, including a solo home run by
Riley Stiles, and took advantage of wildness by Gray starting pitcher Brady Redmond who walked in four of Legion's first five runs. The four Legion batters who got two hits each were Stiles,
Gavin MacDonald,
Jackson Gordon, and Colin Tuttle. Both of Gordon's hits were doubles, including one on a high pop up that dropped untouched between home plate and the mound.
