Despite banging out 18 hits and drawing six walks, the Legion Collegiate Academy Varsity Baseball team couldn't claim a victory at Charlotte Stampede as the game wound up as a 9-9 tie.
The Lancers are now 13-6-2 on the season and will travel to Gray Collegiate Academy on Thursday, April 25.
Legion fell behind 4-0 in the top of the third, but trimmed the deficit to a single run with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and then took a 6-4 lead with three more runs in the fifth inning.before extending the lead to 8-4 with another two runs in the sixth inning. Charlotte rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-8 lead setting the stage for the bottom half of the inning when the Lancers managed to tie the game with a two-out RBI single by
Griffin McKain.
The Lancers had an opportunity to win the game in the eighth inning when
Hudson Riordan singled with two outs and was lifted for a courtesy runner as
Charles Campbell came in to run at first base.
Elisha Baker then drove a double to center field that could have put the winning run at third base, but Campbell was thrown out to end the game in a tie.
Three different Lancers collected three hits. McKain and Riordan went 3 for 4 while Justin Iannetto was 3 for 5. Three other Legion hitters collected two hits. They included
Tyler Rosario,
Gavin MacDonald, and
Jackson Gordon.
Legion used six pitchers in the game. Freshman lefthander
Coalson Williams started and went four innings as he allowed four runs on three hits and three walks.
Anthony Cipriano, Briggs Lee and Will Bartnikowsi combined for two scoreless innings of work. The Stampede scored five runs off MacDonald who pitched just one-third of an inning in the seventh as he allowed two hits and walked three.
