Legion College Academy's varsity baseball team lost to Gray Collegiate Academy 5-3 on Thursday night despite outhitting the Eagles six to two.

Rated 13th in the state by Maxpreps, the Lancers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and were breezing along with that lead into the bottom of the fifth inning behind freshman left handed hurler Griffin McKain who did not allow a hit, but control problems were his downfall as he issued five walks in 4.1 innings on the mound.  He was credited with three runs allowed and took the loss. Gray Collegiate, the No. 23 ranked team, scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning and got its only two hits of the game off Lancer relievers Camden Towell and Will Bartnikowski.

Riley Stiles led the Lancers at the plate as he went 2 for 3. Hudson Riordan drove home two runs with a first inning base hit. McKain, Jackson Gordon and Matthew Pond had the other three base hits.

Legion is now 12-7-2 on the season and will travel to Atlantic Collegiate Academy on Friday.

Bryson Bailey started the game and went four full innings while allowing three runs on seven hits.  Karras Peterson came on in relief in the fifth inning and gave up the tying run on two hits and a walk.  Brannon Cunningham came in to get the Lancers out of a jam and was able to preserve the tie.
