The Legion Collegiate Academy baseball team scored its only two runs and collected its only two hits in the first inning as the Lancers lost their season finale 3-2 at Grace Christian School in Sanford, NC, on Friday night.
Lancer outfielder
Griffin McKain led the game off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Tate Olney followed with a walk and scored Legion's only other run on a double by
Andres Lopez, but Grace starting pitcher Camron Seagraves prevented further runs by striking out the side. The senior righthander went on to finish the game with 17 strikeouts as he whiffed 14 of the final 18 batters he faced.
Ryan Brakstad started for the Lancers and was one of five pitchers used in the game. Brakstad, Cam Towell and Dom Parton combined for five shutout innings while allowing three hits and one walk.
Anthony Cipriano came on in the sixth inning and Grace School touched him up for two runs on two hits and two walks as Cipriano failed to get an out. He was relieved by
Gavin Oakes who prevented any more runs in the sixth inning, but gave up three hits and the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Matt Murchison.
Legion Collegiate Academy ends the 2023-24 season with a 14-9-2 record.
