Rock Hill, SC - Legion Collegiate Academy's
Griffin McKain, an outfielder and left-handed pitcher for the Lancers, was named to the USA Baseball 15U National Team roster on Friday.

The rising sophomore at LCA was the only player from the state of South Carolina named to the 20-player squad. The announcement of the roster came after the National Team Training Camp in Cary, NC. The squad will travel to Atlanta in September for a five-game series against Australia.
"Due to the high level of talent, competition, and versatility displayed at this year's Training Camp, determining a 20-man roster for this year's 15U National Team was a very difficult process," 15U National Team Manager Rob Shabanksy said. "However, after careful consideration, we are confident that the 20 players we have selected can and will find success on the international stage. Most importantly, we are excited that they will represent the stars and stripes in the highest way when competing."
McKain, a native of Fort Mill, is coming off a banner freshman season for the Lancers this past spring. He posted a slash line of .320/.429/.440 while playing in 23 games. He has six extra-base hits and drove in 12 runs while also stealing four bases. McKain also had some time on the mound, appearing in four games with a 3.00 ERA of 16.1 innings of work. He struck out 17 hitters and allowed an opponent batting average of just .091.
McKain will be a part of a squad brought together from 10 different states as well as the territory of Puerto Rico. McKain has been a part of the national team development program in past years. McKain is ranked third in the state of South Carolina by Prep Baseball Report for his age group. He is also ranked 25th in the nation.
"This is a big-time honor for Griffin," Legion Collegiate athletic coordinator Rich Posipanko said. "It puts him on the radar as one of the top Under 15 players in the entire nation. He is very deserving of this recognition. He has a tremendous work ethic and is an outstanding student-athlete, in and out of the classroom. Obviously, the sky is the limit for this young man."
McKain and his U15 National teammates will travel to the Atlanta area in early September for training before squaring off with the team from Australia on September 8-12. Times and locations for the games will be announced at a later date.
