Legion Collegiate Academy's girls volleyball team swept the Indian Land Warrior Classic on Saturday, winning four matches without losing a single set behind the play of
Sophie Larner and
Addison Burke.
The Lancers, ranked 14th in South Carolina by MaxPreps, breezed to the victory and improved their season record to 22-4-3. They opened play with a 3-0 win over Westside High School (25-18, 25-12, 25-15) and followed that with by defeating local rival Northwestern High School 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) in Pool play. They advanced to Bracket play where they faced Westside again in a best two of three match and won 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) to move into the championship match against Lugoff-Elgin High School and came away with the title by winning 2-0 (25-11, 25-17).
Larner, a senior setter, had a strong performance as she handed out 96 assists in four matches and averaged 9.6 assists per set. She had 34 assists in the first match against Westside and followed that with 28 against Northwestern and finished up with 17 assists against both Westside and Lugoff-Elgin.
Burke, a senior middle hitter, had 45 kills, eight service aces, and five blocks. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team along with teammates
Eva Pershin and Joselyn Shaw.
Coach
Lewis Williamson's squad will return to tournament action next weekend, Oct. 4-5, when it travels to Hilton Head High School for the Island Bash.
