The Legion Collegiate Academy softball team dropped two games on Friday in the Lady Rebel Invitational being hosted by Byrnes High School this weekend.

In the first game, the Lancers fell to the Catawba Ridge Copperheads, 10-1, who scored eight runs in the fourth inning.  In the second game, Legion clawed back against Hillcrest High School before losing 7-5.  The Lancers are now 4-3-1 on the season.

Legion's only run against Catawba Ridge came as the result of a passed ball in the top of the first inning, but the Copperheads scored twice in the bottom of the first and then erupted for the big fourth inning with the eight runs on six hits to put the game away.

Catawba Ridge Varsity Copperheads jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Kendra Murray singled down the right field line, and Mia Kovacs popped into a double play, each scoring one run.

Catawba Ridge Varsity Copperheads scored eight runs on six hits and the help of two Lancer errors in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Legion right hander Amelia Mason surrendered all 10 runs on nine hits over three and two-thirds innings. . Keira O'Brien earned the win for Catawba Ridge as she allowed four hits and one unearned run over six innings, striking out nine and walking two.

Leadoff hitter Savannah Cornwell led Legion with two hits in three at bats.

In the second game, Legion's effort to come back from a five-run deficit in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 7-5 to Hillcrest..Hillcrest scored two runs in the first inning and added a single run in the second and four more in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead off starting pitcher Brynley Gaa.

Amelia Mason came on in relief and pitched three and one-third innings, allowing just one hit and no runs. 

Kaylee Belcher led Legion at the pllate with two hits in three at bats
