Legion Collegiate Academy's softball Senior Night was spoiled on Thursday by Hickory Ridge who defeated the Lancers 6-1 at Winthrop's Terry Field complex.
The Lancers are now 7-7-1 on the season while Hickory Ridge improves to 9-2.
The five seniors who were recognized during pregame festivities included:
Macie Tillman,
Brooklyn Shirey,
Addy Broach, El Desermia, and
Amelia Mason.
The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the third inning following a double, single and heads up base running, but Legion knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when El Desermia belted a home run to dead left field. Hickory Ridge came back with five unearned runs in the top of the fifth as it touched
Amelia Mason for four singles and took advantage of two Lancer fielding errors to go ahead 6-1.
Legion only managed to get five hits in the game off Hickory Ridge winning pitcher Emily Kristyn who struck out nine batters and did not issue a walk.
Mason took the loss for the Lancers as she allowed all six runs and gave up eight hits. She fanned 12 hitters and did not walk anyone.
The Lancers will return to action on Friday when they travel down I-77 to Lewisville High School for a 4:00 p.m. start.
