Johnathan Edwards is a former Division I player at Radford University, and is beginning his first season as head coach of the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancer’s girls basketball team.

The native of Brooklyn, NY, who grew up in Elmont, NY, played collegiately at Tyler Junior College in Texas for two years (2008-10) before transferring to Radford (2010-12) where he was a starter and standout for The Highlanders and graduated with a Bachelors in Advertising degree. While at Tyler JC, Edwards served as team captain during the 2009-10 season and was selected on the NJCAA Div. I All-Region 14 Team.

Following graduation from Radford, Edwards served as assistant men’s basketball coach at Tyler Junior College for five years (2013-18). During his time at Tyler JC, he recruited
30 players who went on to receive Div. I scholarships. He helped lead Tyler JC to a Top 25 JUCO ranking in three of the five years he served at that school. Some of his former Tyler players played in the NBA G League.

For the past five years, he has worked as a Men’s Recruiting Coach and Player Evaluator with the NCSA (Next College Student Athlete) a team of more than 1,100 mostly former college players and coaches who assist student-athletes and their families navigate through the college recruiting process. Additionally, Edwards serves as Yes I Can Basketball’s Regional Director for the Rock Hill/Fort Mill region. Yes I Can Basketball was founded in 1997 to serve the youth of Charlotte and surrounding area.

Edwards has one year of high school coaching experience in South Carolina as he served as head boys’ varsity coach in 2022-23 at Walnut Grove Christian School in Fort Mill.
