Julie Davis Sawyer is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Certified Tennis Professional and has over 20 years of coaching experience in various clubs and locations including Olde Providence Racket Club, The Palisades Country Club, and Gatewood Country Club.
Davis-Sawyer was the head coach for the Nation Ford girls high school team for three years (2017-19) where the team went from last place in the conference to first place within that three-year period.
From 1984 to 1986 she went undefeated in high school play, winning three straight South Carolina State Open High School Championships which, to this day, still stands in the record books. She was voted South Carolina Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year in 1985 and 1986. In United States Tennis Association competition during the five years between 1983 and 1987 Julie won 15 South Carolina State junior titles.
She was inducted into the York County Hall of Fame in 2011 for her accomplishments as a player, as well as the Rock Hill High Hall of Fame in 2017 where her jersey was retired. She is one of the most successful female tennis players in South Carolina tennis history.
After high school, Davis-Sawyer was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Clemson University Women’s Tennis and was a four- year starter and letter winner (1987-91) for the Tigers. She was the 1991 Clemson University Team Captain; 1990 Clemson University Most Improved and 1990 Atlantic Coast Conference Athlete of the Week.
In addition to her duties with the Legion Collegiate Academy boy's and girl's tennis programs, Davis-Sawyer is also Director for Rock Hill Tennis Camps and Fort Mill Tennis Camps.
