Gloria Masterton Hunter

Gloria Masterton Hunter has been a Social Studies teacher for eight years, seven of those at Legion Collegiate Academy. Originally from Michigan, Mrs. Hunter began her teaching career in Rock Hill after graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies and Secondary Education from Grand Valley State University in 2017. She also earned a Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina in 2021, as well as an endorsement from Converse College in Gifted and Talented Education.

Mrs. Hunter’s passion for teaching is driven by a deep belief in the power of education to shape critical thinkers and leaders of the future. She has taught a range of subjects including Honors Government and Economics, U.S. History, Psychology, and Sociology, consistently striving to make Social Studies meaningful and relevant to students' lives. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Hunter serves as the Social Studies Department Chair, a faculty evaluator, and peer mentor for first year teachers.

Her dedication has been recognized through numerous honors, including being named LCA’s 2021–2022 Teacher of the Year and a Top 10 National Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars in 2022. Mrs. Hunter was also selected as one of the fifteen student/teacher teams in the nation to study World War II at the Albert H. Small Normandy Institute with George Washington University in 2023, and most recently named Grand Valley State University’s 2025 Young Alumni of the Year.

A fun fact about Mrs. Hunter is she had a Legion alumni officiate her wedding in 2024 in Charleston! When not teaching, Mrs. Hunter enjoys watching Michigan football (go blue!), spending time outdoors with her dog Rosie, and traveling with her husband, Alex.
